Diabolical Masquerade - Death´s Design

Diabolical Masquerade fue un proyecto experimental formado en 1993 y liderado por el guitarrista sueco Anders Nyström, mejor conocido como Blakkheim y por su colaboración como guitarrista con la banda Katatonia.

En Diabolical Masquerade la música y las letras eran escritas y tocadas por él, quien formó esta banda porque quería poder componer música más extrema, mientras que en Katatonia podía explorar ritmos más suaves y melódicos.

El estílo de la banda se inclina hacia ritmos de Black Melódico Avant-garde con algunas influencias de Death Thrash Metal.
Blakkheim quizo experimentar más con la estructura, el tema y la composición de las canciones.

Death's Design se utilizó como el soundtrack de una película sueca de horror, que nunca llegó a existir, con 61 pistas y 20 movimientos, en el cuál se incluye la experimentación con varios géneros, usando elementos de rock progresivo, progressive metal, música ambiental, música clásica, y por momentos toques de fusión y jazz.

Blakkheim trabajó en el proyecto junto con Dan Swanö. A principios de septiembre del 2004, fue anunciado que Blakkheim había parado el proyecto mientras encontraba la inspiración para su quinto álbum.
